Drug Uses
Duricef is used for treatment of infections caused by certain bacteria.

How Taken
Use Duricef as directed by your doctor. Take Duricef on an empty stomach or with a meal. To clear up your infection completely, continue taking Duricef for the full course of treatment, even if you feel better in a few days. Do not miss any doses.

Warnings/Precautions
Before taking Duricef, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances, if you are allergic to any ingredient in Duricef, if you have a blood clotting disorder, kidney problems, or stomach or bowel problems (eg, inflammation), if you have had a severe allergic reaction (eg, a severe rash, hives, breathing difficulties, or dizziness) to a penicillin antibiotic (eg, amoxicillin) or other beta–lactam antibiotic (eg, imipenem), if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breast–feeding. If you become pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Duricef during pregnancy. Duricef is excreted in breast milk. If you are or will be breast–feeding while you are using Duricef, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby. Some medicines may interact with Duricef. Therefore tell your doctor of all prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement that you are taking. If severe diarrhea, stomach cramps/pain, or bloody stools occur, contact your doctor at once. This could be a symptom of a serious side effect that needs immediate medical attention. Do not treat diarrhea without consulting your doctor. Duricef is effective only against bacteria. It is not effective for treating viral infections (eg, the common cold). Long–term or repeated use of Duricef may cause a second infection. Contact your doctor if signs of a second infection occur. Duricef may cause incorrect test results with some urine glucose tests. Duricef may interfere with some lab test results. Make sure your doctor and laboratory personnel know you are using Duricef.. Elderly patients may be more sensitive to the effects of Duricef. Use Duricef with extreme caution in children younger than 10 years of age who have diarrhea or a stomach or bowel infection.

Missed Dose
If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember. However if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the Missed Dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Possible Side Effects
Some of the Possible Side Effects are- Diarrhea, nausea, stomach upset, vomiting. Contact your doctor if any of these or other side effects occur. If you experience any of the following serious side effects, you should seek medical attention immediately- allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue), bloody diarrhea, dark urine, decreased urination, fever, chills, or sore throat, joint pain, red, swollen, or blistered skin, seizures, severe diarrhea, stomach pain or cramps, unusual bruising or bleeding, unusual tiredness or weakness, vaginal itching, odor, or discharge, yellowing of the skin or eyes.

Storage
Store Duricef at 59 – 86 °F (15 – 30 °C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Duricef out of the reach of children.

Overdose
If overdose is suspected seek medical attention immediately. Some of the symptoms of Duricef overdose are- muscle spasms, seizures.

More Information
If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, contact your doctor. Duricef should be used only by the patient for whom it has been prescribed. Do not take less or more or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
